If you are down to your last few dollars this is the dish. The individual ingedients are inexpensive and combines it makes a wonderfully nurturing meal. There's no way around the salt I'm afraid. You really need it for flavour.
Rinse lentils & set aside to drain.
Heat oil in a large pan and saute onion, garlic, chilli & ginger until the onion is soft. Add the turmeric and combine through the onion.
Add the lentils and fry for a couple of minutes before adding the water. Reduce the heat & cook for about 15 minutes. Season with salt & continue to cook until the water has completely absorbed and the lentils are soft. Serve with chopped coriander.
