Corn Syrup
Corn syrup is a liquid sugar produced from cornstarch. It is exceptionally sweet and cheap to produce and is now used predominantly by the soft drink industry. One bushel of corn produces enough corn syrup to sweeten 324 cans of cola.
In America corn syrup (otherwise known as high fructose corn syrup) is in everything from bread to pasta sauces, to bacon and beer.
Excess consumption of foods containing corn syrup has been linked to heart disease, diabetes and high cholesterol.
