Products we LOVE in a pack: Rice Plus
By: The Food CoachHere's a product i am REALLY, REALLY excited about (yes, i am shouting!)
RICE PLUS is a great addition to a meal in place of regular rice. It is not only nourishing, adding extra nutrients and fibre to the rice, but it is delicious. It has a wonderful subtle nutty flavor and added texture. Just cook it as you would normal brown medium grain rice.
What's so great about it? Well it contains extra nutritional benefits from powerful whole rice and grains as well as:
4 X the fibre of regular brown rice
30% more protein than regular brown rice
26% less carbohydrate than regular brown rice
Resistant starch
Wheat free
Brown Rice
Brown rice is a source of many beneficial nutrients, including fibre, magnesium, zinc and vitamin B-6. The process that produces brown rice removes only the outermost layer, the hull, of the rice kernel leaving the nutritious bran layer intact.
White Basmati
The grains of basmati rice are longer than most other types of rice. Cooked grains of basmati rice are characteristically free flowing rather than sticky, unlike most other kinds of long-grain rice. Cooked basmati rice can be uniquely identified by its fragrance.
BARLEYmaxTM
Developed by CSIRO, BARLEYmaxTM is a superior Low GI wholegrain that contains twice the dietary fibre of regular grains and has four times the amount of resistant starch.
Pearled Barley
Barley is another versatile Low GI cereal grain with a rich nut like flavour and a likeable chewy, pasta-like consistency. Pearled barley is a very good source of fibre and selenium, phosphorus, copper and manganese.
White Quinoa
One of the ancient stable foods of the Incas, it was called the "Mother Grain". It is a complete protein containing all the amino acids necessary for nutritional needs. It is also high in iron and calcium and is a good source of manganese, magnesium and copper as well as fibre.
Red Basmati
Like brown rice, red rice is higher in fibre than white rice and is rich in B vitamins, iron and calcium. The reddish colour is due to an antioxidant called anthocyanin which is known to have health promoting properties.
Black Rice
Also known as purple rice, black rice was traditionally served to the nobility throughout Asian history. High in nutritional value, it contains 18 amino acids, zinc, copper, carotene, anthocyanin and several important vitamins. The grain has a mild nutty flavour and similar fibre content to brown rice.
Black Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds may be the oldest condiment known to man. They are highly valued for their oil which is exceptionally resistant to rancidity. Not only are sesame seeds a very good source of manganese and copper, but they are also a good source of calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc and
dietary fibre.
